Install
Run Brompter on your machine with the agent CLI you already use. The backend never leaves localhost unless you put a token on it.
Prerequisites
- Node.js 20 or newer, and pnpm 10.
- Git, if you want worktrees, the graph, or kanban runs.
- At least one agent CLI on your PATH:
claude,codex,cursor-agent, or Gemini CLI 0.33.0 or newer.
Sign the CLI in once before the first chat: claude /login, codex login, or cursor-agent login. An API key in Settings → Connections is the other path for Claude.
Desktop app
The desktop shell is a Tauri window with the same UI and a bundled backend. From the Brompter package:
pnpm install
pnpm desktop:devA production installer is pnpm desktop:build. The first launch asks which CLI to use, creates a workspace, and offers a short tour. Help → Setup guide opens that wizard again.
Local widget
The widget is the same chat over a running app. Two processes: a Hono backend that spawns the CLI, and the Svelte UI.
# terminal 1 — backend
pnpm --filter @devchat/backend dev
# terminal 2 — UI
pnpm --filter @devchat/ui devOpen http://localhost:5195/__devchat__/. The chip sits at the bottom of the window. The backend listens on 127.0.0.1:8787.
