The workspace
Terminal
A shell in the workspace. The Rust engine keeps the session, scrollback, and quick commands, including over SSH, WSL, and Docker.
Open a shell
Term starts a shell in the active workspace. Bash, zsh, sh, and fish start as login shells. Settings → Terminal picks the default shell and whether each shell receives its login arguments or a custom list. A one-off shell choice still uses login startup. The pane is an xterm grid with a WebGL glyph atlas, so full-screen tools repaint in place.
A workspace whose path is ssh://, wsl://, docker://, or user@host:/path opens that shell on the remote machine. SSH uses ssh -tt and your existing config. Same-distro WSL can run as a local login shell when the folder is already on this machine.
Keys, find, and paste
- Shift+Enter and Ctrl+Enter use the kitty keyboard protocol, so an agent CLI receives the modified key.
- Find is Ctrl+F or Cmd+F. Enter jumps to the next match.
- A dropped file pastes as a quoted path. A dropped image is saved and pasted the same way.
- Settings → Terminal can map the JIS yen key to a backslash.
- A command from the terminal menu, or from the Brompter CLI, is sent as one paste followed by Enter.
The session
Scrollback is written as the shell prints, so a restart of the engine can restore the tab. The pane asks the engine to resume a session whose process is gone. Closing the tab deletes that session, and it does not come back. A 33rd live shell is refused. Reset clears mouse and keyboard modes and leaves the shell running.
A shell that is running Claude, Codex, Cursor, or Gemini shows that agent on the tab, with a working, waiting, or completed mark. A title you type stays; a title the program sets does not replace it. OSC 52 clipboard copy is on until you turn it off under Settings → Terminal.
Links and output
A URL or a file path in the scrollback opens an action. You can open it, copy it, or send a selection to chat. Add to chat stages a chip such as Terminal 4 (159-164). Click the chip to read the full text with line numbers. You stay on the terminal. Contrast is Automatic, Off, or a custom ratio from 1 to 21.
Floating terminal
Ctrl+ or Cmd+ opens a shell over the window and leaves the tab rail alone. The same chord hides it. The session keeps running while it is hidden. Settings → Terminal can turn the chord off. Settings → Keybindings can change it.
Quick commands
Settings → Quick Commands stores a label and a command. Global commands appear in every terminal menu. A project command appears when the shell’s directory matches that project. Choosing one runs it in the open shell.
Ghostty and Warp
Settings → Terminal can import the Ghostty config from its usual path, or a Warp theme from the themes folder. The import keeps the font, cursor, background, foreground, and ANSI colors that the file defines. Empty fields keep the app palette.
